What is Aperitif?

Whetting the appetite with a before-dinner drink, or aperitif — from the Latin ’aperire,’ (to open) — has long been associated with improved digestion.


How do they 'Awaken the appetite'?

Drinks that are bitter, or bitterness in general, has been shown to make us salivate and stimulate stomach acid which in turn aids digestion.


How do I drink them?

Please serve chilled Spritz style. 1 part (50ml) Æcorn - top with 2 parts sparkling water or tonic water and do check out our cocktails page for more recipes.


Do they contain any alcohol?

Æcorn Aperitifs contain less than 0.5% ABV, and are defined as non alcoholic.


What are the ingredients?

Water, Verjus, Natural Botanical Distillates & Extracts
Preservative} Potassium sorbate Acid} Malic acid

Æcorn Dry: Water, Verjus, Grape Juices, Natural Botanical Distillates and Extracts (3%), Preservative: Potassium Sorbate, Acid: Malic acid.
Botanicals: Clary sage, Nettle, Seaweed, Herb Ester, Quassia, Keemum Tea, Oakwood & Acorn.

Æcorn Bitter: Water, Verjus, Sugar, Grape Juices, Natural Botanical Distillates and Extracts (3%), Preservative: Potassium Sorbate, Acid: Citric acid.

Botanicals: Bay, Coffee, Grapefruit, Honey, Sancho, Quassia, Gentian, Oak & Acorn

Æcorn Aromatic: Water, Verjus, Grape Juices, Natural Botanical Distillates and Extracts (5%), Preservative: Potassium Sorbate, Acid: Citric acid.

Botanicals: Cassia Bark, Bitter Orange, Cardamom, Kola nut, Smoked Cherrywood, Chinotto, Oakwood & Acorn.


Tasting notes

Æcorn Dry
Pale verdant in colour with a Fresh, floral nose. Bone dry with green herbaceous notes of nettle, gentian, clary sage and chamomile. Tart and refreshing with a herbal, bittersweet finish.

Æcorn Bitter
Vivid carmine in colour with a bright, citrusy nose. Bittersweet and complex with notes of grapefruit skin, bay and orange marmalade. Bold, bitter finish with lingering notes of quassia & honeycomb.

Æcorn Aromatic
Rich tawny in colour with a sweetly aromatic, smoky nose. Full-bodied and indulgent with notes of smoked Cherrywood, vanilla, kola nut & chinotto. Smooth and silky, finishing with subtle notes of chocolate, raison and oak wood.

Vegan?
Although Æcorn Aperitifs are not certified vegan, we are vegan-friendly. We do not use any animal derivatives in our production and distillation processes.


What is Verjus?

Literally meaning 'green juice', Verjus is made by pressing unripened grapes. These sacrificial grapes are harvested before Véraison (when the grapes start to change colour), at a time known as the Green Harvest. They are very occasionally pressed to produce a crisp, dry and tart liquid known as 'Verjus’.

Æcorn uses 100% English Verjus as the base for our Aperitifs adding the highest quality botanicals sourced from all over the world.


Kosher / Halal

Unfortunately, Æcorn Aperitif are not certified Kosher/Halal therefore we cannot guarantee it to be suitable for your consumption.


Vegetarian/Vegan

We are pleased to report Æcorn Aperitifs are suitable for vegetarians.

Although Æcorn Aperitifs are not certified vegan, we are vegan-friendly. We do not use any animal derivatives in our production and distillation processes.


Alcohol content

Æcorn Aperitifs are a natural alcohol-free alternative for those who would prefer not to drink alcohol. Designed to awaken the appetite, they help to solve the dilemma of "what to enjoy with food when you’re not drinking”.

Æcorn Aperitifs are certified alcohol free, containing less than 0.5% ABV & therefore legally qualifies as a non-alcoholic spirit. For context, Æcorn Aperitifs contain the same amount of alcohol that occurs naturally in fresh orange juice or malt vinegars.

Æcorn Aperitifs are suitable for those pregnant & driving, however we always recommend customers to consult a medical professional prior to consumption if they have any concerns. Especially those who have severe issues with any alcohol content at all.


Best before date

The Best Before date for Æcorn Aperitifs can be found on the bottom of the bottle.
Once opened, we recommend keeping refrigerated and using within 4 weeks of opening.

Before opening, Æcorn Aperitifs should be stored in a cold place, out of direct sunlight.


Pregnancy

We are happy to confirm Æcorn Aperitifs are suitable for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.  However, we always recommend consulting a medical professional prior to if you have any concerns.


Sediment

Please rest assured, sediment is normal and still suitable for consumption.  We have found that as Æcorn Aperitifs are made from natural extracts and distillates, sometimes settling may occur. This sediment has been micro-tested and is completely safe to consume. The sediment will disappear once vigorously shaken.

Do they contain any Acorns?

Æcorn Aperitifs contain Oak extracts, which were Acorns a long time ago. They also contain a small amount of Acorn extract.
